Is It True When They Say, “No Pain, No Gain”?

We’re sure you’ve often heard that you have to experience pain in order to successfully make any progress in fitness training. This is one myth that dies hard! Is it true when they say, “no pain, no gain”? The FizzUp trainer is going to change what you think about this common misconception, which may prevent you from enjoying your FizzUp workout and getting results.

What exactly is progress

All physical activity requires effort from your muscles, heart and lungs. It pushes your body to adapt itself to physical exercise for a length of time or intensity that it’s not accustomed to. To make progress, you should progressively feel the exercises getting more difficult. Otherwise, you might hit a plateau. That’s why the progress you make depends on the difficulty of the exercises your program gives you.

With FizzUp fitness training, you don’t have to worry about increasing and calculating the intensity of your exercises yourself. The trainer takes care of it for you; all you have to do is just follow his instructions. The number of reps increases and the exercise duration varies depending on how your body evolves and your goal. You won’t force yourself to get through your set because the trainer has made it right for your fitness level. Your FizzUp trainer’s job is to make sure that your program stays balanced by adapting the difficulty of the exercises to suit your starting fitness level. The only thing that will help you make progress is a fitness training program that’s right for your potential.

Using pain to measure progress

If you experience pain during your workout, there are several factors you should consider to figure out what’s causing it and how to make it disappear. Sharp pain is never good sign, not to mention a sign that you’re not making progress. So watch out for pain and don’t push your body too far.

  • How you do the exercise: You may experience pain when you don’t do the exercise correctly. In order for the exercise to be effective, you have to do it by the book. So take the time to read the instructions that are included in your workout so that you’re sure to be in the right starting position. The more carefully you do the exercise, the less you risk experiencing pain or injuring yourself.
  • Physical fatigue: Having a hard time finishing your workout because of the pain you’re experiencing? Your body is telling you that it’s time to take it easy. Save the Cal Burner Add-on* for later. Help yourself recover and try the “Get In Shape” goal. The Stretching Add-on* can help you relax.
  • Getting back into working out: If you had to take a break from working out or stopped working out for an extended period of time, your body needs to gradually get used to exercising again. There’s no need to force it; you would only be doing it more harm than good! If you don’t give your body some time to adapt, you may experience excruciating pain, which is a sign that you need to slow down.
  • Speed: You might confuse quantity with quality. Go at the same pace as your trainer in your FizzUp program. If you go too fast, you won’t enable your muscles to work correctly, which causes pain and may lead to injury.

As you can see, the saying, “no pain, no gain” isn’t the best exercise motto. If you want to make progress, make sure to do the exercise correctly, which is always more effective than botching the exercise like a madman.

How to differentiate between difficulty and pain

When a FizzUp workout seems too difficult, this means that it’s testing your ability to get through an entire exercise. Twinges, tingling, light and localized burning skin sensations, sweating and trembling are all signs that your muscles are working, without you experiencing agonizing pain. This means you’re making lots of progress.

On the other hand, when you finish your workout in a thousand pieces or are experiencing sharp pain in your muscles, back or tendons while exercising, you worked too hard and have put yourself at risk of injury. You might start to experience various levels of pain, which turns out to be counterproductive. Thinking that “no pain, no gain” will get you anywhere is a bad technique that only causes discomfort and injuries. Once again, if you just rely on the workouts programed by your FizzUp trainer, there’s no way you’ll experience this level of suffering. The exercises will be difficult enough to make you progress without getting discouraged.

So make the smart choice and let the FizzUp trainer set the difficulty for your workouts. There’s also no need for you to change the level of difficulty to Hard for the Cal Burner*, Six-Pack* or Stretching Add-ons* if you can’t get through the entire exercise or finish the Add-on in the allotted time. It’s better to manage getting through the entire exercise by sticking with the pace the app gives you with an easier level of difficulty so that you’re sure to make progress. The FizzUp trainer will gradually adjust the difficulty without you even noticing it and your fitness level will improve.

Listen to your body: that’s the best way to know your limits. If you experience unusual and sharp pain, stop your workout right away and contact your doctor. Experiencing pain isn’t a part of continuous progress.

No pain, no gain? Now you know that this motto just isn’t true. You can’t get results in the blink of an eye. They’ll gradually appear if you respect your body and your starting fitness level. Rely on your FizzUp trainer to guide you as you progress.
