5 Tips for Working Out When It’s Hot

The temperature keeps going up, but what about your motivation to work out? Although you can do your FizzUp workout no matter what the weather is like, it’s still important to use common sense and do a workout that’s right for the conditions outside. High temperatures in the summer have a significant impact on your body. The FizzUp trainer is giving you his five tips for working out when it’s hot (or even scorching) outside!

1 | Adapt your workout

Working out when it’s hot means you have to listen to your body and how you’re feeling. If it’s hard for you to complete set of reps or if you feel your heart racing or have cramps, take a break. You can also rest for longer periods of time and do versions of your exercises that are less intense. The FizzUp trainer’s goal isn’t to tire you out or leave you feeling beat for the rest of the week.

Enjoying your workouts is part of reaching your goal. That’s why pain isn’t the way to go. Be attentive to your needs and don’t do exercises that are too hard for you.

2 | Choose the right time to work out

When it’s really hot, choosing the right time to work out means avoiding the hottest hours of the day. At noon, put down your sneakers and smartphone… this is the worst time to work out. The sun is at its peak and giving its all. Instead, try doing your workout early in the morning (before 8 am) or in the evening. It’s up to you to see if you prefer working out after you wake up or before you go to bed!

Tip from the trainer: If you can’t work out in the morning or in the evening, do your workout in the coolest room of your home or office. It’s even better if it’s air-conditioned!

3 | Drink water on a regular basis

Staying hydrated is vital if you want to prevent nausea, dizziness or headaches, among other side effects, that are associated with dehydration. For maximum hydration, you need to drink water before, during and after exercise. This is one of the mistakes to avoid if you want to prevent any feeling of faintness. Most importantly, don’t wait to drink until you’re thirsty! If you feel thirsty, this is because you haven’t continuously and regularly kept yourself hydrated. To avoid this kind of situation, take sips of water throughout the day, as well as during exercise.

Tip from the trainer: You can also eat something savory before starting your workout because sodium retains water.

4 | Opt for the right sportswear

Working out when it’s hot also means that you should think about what to wear. The FizzUp trainer doesn’t recommend wearing tight-fitted clothing. It tends to keep the heat in instead of helping you release it. Try sportswear that’s loose and made of a lightweight material, such as cotton, that will let you sweat without irritating your skin and enable your body “breathe.” Women who use FizzUp can bust out their nicest sports bra and pair of shorts, and men can take their shirts off to show off their results from several weeks of working out.

Tip from the trainer: Light colors retain less heat, so wear white, beige and other light colors!

5 | Choose the right place to work out

Is the heat keeping you from doing your FizzUp workout outside? Don’t force yourself to work out in the heat and stay inside at home or at work instead. For instance, try to keep the temperature down in a room where you can work out. To do this, close the shutters or curtains and open open a window to circulate the air when the sun goes down. Put a fan in front of it or enjoy your air conditioning, if you have it.5ConseilsPourSentrainerQuandIlFaitChaud01Tip from the trainer: When the heat is unbearable but you really want to work out, stay refreshed by filling up a bucket with cold water (add a few ice cubes if you like) and keeping a small towel handy that you can moisten every time you rest.

FizzUp makes working out when it’s hot possible. Don’t ever let the weather make you throw in the towel. You CAN reach your fitness goal, even in the summer. Be sure to drink enough water and eat foods with a high water content, like these seasonal fruits and veggies!
