If you’re a hearty eater, you love food and to you, holiday meals aren’t just a golden opportunity to feast, but also to enjoy alcoholic beverages that are usually served during these types of events. Eating too many fattening foods and drinking too much alcohol throughout a holiday party can have a harmful effect on your liver and your body in general. To get back on your feet right after the holiday party is over, paying more attention to what you’re eating and drinking is key.
Alcoholic beverages contain varying amounts of ethanol, which is the molecule that causes intoxication. It’s released into the body through the stomach lining and interferes with your brain’s neurotransmitters, causing the all-too-familiar stimulating and inhibiting effects that you might have already experienced. All it takes is 0.5 grams of alcohol per liter of blood (or about two alcoholic beverages) to begin feeling the effects of ethanol.
To counteract the effects of a hangover after your holiday party, we recommend staying hydrated throughout the day starting when you wake up. Water is the best fluid for the body, so you can drink as much of it as you want. Avoid processed fruit juices that contain large amounts of sugar: they’ll only make you more thirsty.
For those of you who are more adventurous, you can try a fruit-based FizzUp smoothie. To get back your energy, you can also try lemon or grapefruit, which are high in vitamin C.
If you want to drink something different, try herbal teas which, in addition to being good for your body, come in so many varieties, so you’ll never get tired of them. Indulge in infusions that you can make yourself! Stock up before your holiday party. But don’t be fooled by detox teas. They’re more of a marketing ploy than something that has actual medicinal benefits.
Peppermint is known to help your digestion. Steeping a few leaves after every meal will help you feel better faster. You may also like to steep a few lemon slices in some hot water. Add some honey and enjoy! This will help your body regain its acid-base balance. When you overeat, the acid in your stomach increases and causes pain that lemon will ease.
Steeping some fresh ginger also works wonders, especially against headaches because it increases blood flow to the brain.
Are you suffering from nausea and feeling a little under the weather? If you don’t feel like eating anything for an entire day after you’ve enjoyed yourself at a party the night before, eating healthy foods is much more beneficial for your body and will help you get back on your feet.
If the day after the party is a bit rough, FizzUp recommends watching what you eat and avoiding fattening, sugary and spicy foods. Wait awhile before having foods that are fried or covered in sauce, as well as pastries and baked goods. The goal is to give your body a break and to make the job much easier for your liver. By the same token, avoid salt and salty foods in general because salt also causes dehydration!
To get enough to eat without going overboard, we recommend opting for some vegetable broth with toast or steamed vegetables with fish or lean meat. The most important thing is to not overload your stomach.
To cure a hangover, you need to listen to your body. Focus on what you’re feeling and give yourself some time to rest, but don’t stay inactive. It’s up to you to decide when you should rest and when you should get moving.
Headaches are one of the most unpleasant symptoms the day after a celebration. To get rid of it as fast as possible, take some acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol) and avoid aspirin, which tends to make gastritis worse (stomach lining inflammation). Doing a light FizzUp workout will make you drink a lot of water and sweating helps your body expel stored toxins more quickly.
It’s hard to work up enough energy to stay active when you’re trying to cure a hangover. But, moving your body and exerting yourself will give you more of a chance to get your energy back. A brisk walk outside is a great way to warm up before starting your FizzUp workout. Dress warmly and don’t be afraid to do your fitness exercises outside. The cold will give you a small boost and get your head in the game.
If you’re pretty sensitive to the cold, you can recover from last night by going to a sauna after your FizzUp workout in your living room.
Staying active and getting rest can go hand in hand. Exercise promotes the secretion of hormones that are good for your wellness, whereas a nap helps you gradually recover. If you feel the need to sleep, take 10 minutes or so to rest. But don’t sleep more than 30 minutes! If you don’t want to close your eyes, just lie down in a comfortable position.
If you’re having a hard time getting out of bed, the FizzUp trainer just recommends being patient. Your blood alcohol level, or the concentration of alcohol in the blood, gradually decreases thanks to your liver as it eliminates 0.15 mg/L per hour on average. It makes sense to say that the more alcohol you drink, the more time it will take for you to recover. So be patient. It won’t be long before you get over these symptoms after your holiday party.
With FizzUp, you’ll always be able to cure a hangover. Forget about the old home remedies and use your common sense. Eating a light diet that’s high in healthy nutrients, staying hydrated and a bit of rest and willpower will help you quickly get back on track!
